Brading secured their first league win of the season, a superb 1-4 at newly promoted Vectis Nomads. Again there were changes due to injuries, work, holidays and players leaving for new challenges.
Brading’s attacking play at times was excellent, 2 superb finishes from young Liam Bennett and Dan Vale gave us a 0-2 half time lead.

The start of the second half, Nomads had their best spell and pulled a goal back, but for two superb saves from keeper Ryan Brose, they could have pulled level. It was Brading that scored next, when a James Woodhouse’s strike from the edge of the box was fumbled by the keeper, Valer reacted first to finish well. We had more chances to increase our lead before we scored the goal of the game, Liam Bennett played the ball in to Valer’s feet and after continuing his run, recieved the return ball and finished superbly.

A very good TEAM performance by the lads,  Luke gave a very good performance in midfield and as mentioned already, Ryan Brose’s first team debut was assured and he made some superb saves. Valer and his brother Liam scored the goals and were excellent. Both myself and Steve Rowe, the Man of the Match was Scott Lawson. He was excellent in the middle of the park and when he had to drop into the back 4, inr the last 15, he was a giant.

Well done lads. UTR.

Update On Adam Connors injury!!

Injury update.

I’ve received news this morning, that 1st team Captain Adam Connor, has damaged his anterior cruciate, medial ligaments and cartilage in his left knee.

The swelling is so bad that the true extent of the damage and possible solutions can still not determined. This was the result of an extremely ill-timed and in my opinion, poor challenge, during last weeks game against Shanklin.

As a result, Adam, who runs his own flooring business, will be incapacitated for several weeks. This will make his upcoming family holiday, very difficult to say the least. Adam is an extremely popular member of the club and will be sorely missed over the coming weeks/months.

We wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Brading Town Men of the Match: Liam Bennett / James Woodhouse.

Excellent performance when you consider that Connor, Quigley, Knowles, Woodnutt, Younie, Henderson, Buckett, Ranson, Payne & Barron, were all unavailable for one reason or another.

After going behind in the first minute Brading pulled together and levelled after 35mins, brilliant play from young Liam Bennett got him into the box and his cross was put away by Elliott DAY. The Romans gave a good account of themselves in the first period and went in level.

Unfortunately the Romans gifted West Wight a goal at the start of the second half and this put them on the back foot. Despite putting in a lot of effort to get back in the game, a third came with 15 mins to go, to kill the game off.

The manager was delighted with the effort, commitment and some of the football Brading played was excellent. If they had played anything like this against ECS and Shanklin, they would have had better outcomes in both games.

Special mentions to James Woodhouse who had an exceptional game at the back. Also, 16 year old Liam Bennett, who in his first start for the first team, caught the eye. It was also great to see Scott Lawson back playing in a Brading shirt, with a couple more games under his belt he will be a massive player for the Romans.

If one or two of the (unavailable) players can manage to return to the fold, in the coming weeks, the 1st team can build on this performance and turn the corner.

The club are delighted to announce that last season’s, Managers player of the year Scott Lawson, has signed Island League forms for the club. Scott left during the Summer to join Wessex League, Newport (IW) FC.

Scott suffered a terrible injury in the summer, whilst playing beach football. He is back in training and will hopefully be ready for selection asap.

We are delighted to have Scott back on Island forms with us and look forward to seeing him in a Brading Town shirt soon. This will hopefully work out for all parties, Scott gaining match fitness and Brading having a top player back and once fully match fit, I’m sure that Brading and Newport will reap the benefits.

Steve Lawton.

Brading Town Man of the Match: Danny VALE.

Heavy legs, injuries, unavailability’s and a well organised Shanklin side, left Brading looking for their first league win of the season down the “Lane” today.

We never really got anywhere near the levels we achieved in the Jubilee Cup Final last Thursday night.

After going behind, we equalised with a well taken Chris Murray goal. That was as good as it got for us. Although we dominated the second period, we never really threatened to score a winning goal.

A massive blow came in the first half, when skipper Adam Connor was quite clearly fouled, his awkward landing and resulting knee injury, led to him being carried from the pitch. We are still waiting for confirmation but it looked as if Adam could be out for a very long time. With Buckett, Day, Ranson and Henderson also injured, we have to stick together and hopefully get through this difficult period.
West Wight away in the Challenge cup next !!
