As reported by someone looking for Bemridge Windmill.
Brading won through to the next round of the IOW Senior Dacia Gold Cup, with a hard fought 1-0 victory at the Peter Henry Ground.
The victory was far more comfortable than the score line suggests, Brading were guilty of once again, missing numerous opportunities.
Quigley and Younie returned to the starting line up, Woodnutt and Ben Armstrong dropping to the bench. Henderson was unavailable, so Bucket, returning from injury, was back in the squad.
Niton with a mixture of youth and experience, were very much on the back foot for most of the game. They had the opening chance, Ruck made his only save of the afternoon, following a scramble.
From then on it was all Brading, with chances being created and spurned at regular intervals. When the Romans managed to hit the target, the visiting keeper was equal to our efforts.
The breakthrough came midway through the first half, when our two best players on the day, combined to produce the goal. Oli Wilson’s excellent corner was superbly stroked home by Brian ATTRILL.
Vale ( on several occasions), Collins, Armstrong, Lawson and Younie all either missed, or had opportunities saved in the first half, the same pattern followed in the second.
The front three were replaced midway through the second half, still chances were missed, notably after the keeper dropped a long range effort and Buckett hit the bar from close range.
Not the best performance, but a win and a place in the next round. The pleasing thing was we looked solid and although we only scored once, we created numerous chances. The disappointing thing was – we didn’t take them !
Brading Town MOM: BRIAN ATTRILL. Dominated the midfield, won almost everything and scored the vital goal.

Held to a draw by a very determined Shanklin side, who were valiantly led by veteran’s, Andy Spary & Phil Matthews…. they gave it all they had, in effort and grit.
Something Brading sadly lacked. Shanklin were some what helped by a dithering referee, who awarded a diabolical free kick, which gave Shanklin their equaliser.
If only Brading had given as much, instead of wandering aimlessly around, arguing with each other and challenging every decision the ref or lino gave. In between all this, a host chances were spurned by Brading..
All in all, the poorest display this season…

Former Brading Town keeper Simon Moore, who is currently No1 keeper at Brentford FC, has been awarded with a new 3 year deal. Simon was attracting the attention of league clubs further up the league pyramid. His current form has seen him picked in front of his friend and mentor, goalie Richard Lee, who has helped Simon tremendously. Si also has much respect for his manager at Brentford, Uwe Rosler.
I’m sure everyone at Brading Town wishes Simon well in his future years, Si is only 22 y/o and has much to look forward to.
